John McLaughlin cameo

John McLaughlin (March 29, 1927 – August 16, 2016) was an American television personality and political commentator. He created, produced, and hosted the political commentary series The McLaughlin Group. He also hosted and produced John McLaughlin's One on One which ran from 1984 to 2013.

McLaughlin portrayed as himself in Independence Day and appears in his show speaking about the ineffectual leadership of President Thomas J. Whitmore and questioning his commentators, "President Whitmore's approval ratings have slipped below 40%. Even his Crime Bill failed to pass. Are the salad days over for President Whitmore?" After the arrival of the aliens, McLaughlin question about Whitmore's decision to stay at the White House: "The visitors have arrived but the President has remained at the White House. Question: are Mr Whitmore's actions a) ultra brave, or b) foolhardy?"
